After recently completing a couple of architectural photography projects for JMA Architecture, they asked me to shoot a portrait of the entire office staff on location at their studio in Summerlin. Here is the finished product.

Corporate team photography of the JMA Architecture staff at their Summerlin office in Las Vegas.

Why Team Photography Matters

A company’s people are often its greatest asset. While individual headshots introduce key team members, a professional corporate team portrait communicates something different. It demonstrates collaboration, stability, and the personalities behind the business.

For architecture firms, engineering companies, law firms, and professional service organizations, these photographs often become one of the first images prospective clients see. Whether displayed on a company website, included in marketing materials, or featured in annual reports, a strong team photograph helps reinforce trust before a conversation even begins.

Photographing Teams in Their Own Environment

Many businesses choose location portrait photography because it provides context that a studio simply cannot. Photographing employees in their own workspace creates images that feel authentic while subtly reflecting the company’s culture and work environment.

Natural surroundings also help people relax. Instead of standing against a plain backdrop, the office becomes part of the story without distracting from the people themselves. For design firms, this approach creates an additional connection between the team and the spaces they create.

Careful planning is especially important for larger groups. Positioning, spacing, lighting, and perspective all influence the final photograph. Small adjustments often make a significant difference in creating a balanced composition where every person feels equally important.

A Photograph That Represents the Entire Company

Unlike individual portraits, team photography is designed to represent an organization rather than one person. It becomes part of the company’s visual identity and often remains in use for years across websites, proposals, recruiting materials, presentations, and marketing campaigns.

Projects like this highlight an important aspect of corporate photography. Great images don’t simply document who works at a company. They communicate professionalism, teamwork, and confidence while giving clients a genuine introduction to the people behind the brand.
