I recently completed several commercial photography assignments, including a shoot of the newly remodeled Bureau of Reclamation buildings in Boulder City, Nevada. This project gave me the opportunity to photograph the results of a major building renovation and document the work of the architects and construction team involved.
The renovation was designed by Tate, Snyder, Kimsey Architects, with Whiting-Turner Construction serving as the contractor. My role was to capture the completed spaces through professional photography, highlighting the building design, renovated interiors, and overall quality of the finished project.

Documenting a Building Renovation Through Photography
Renovation projects are particularly interesting to photograph because they involve adapting existing structures to meet new needs. Unlike new construction, the design must work within the conditions of the original building while introducing updated materials, finishes, and functional improvements.
For this assignment, the photography focused on presenting the renovated Bureau of Reclamation buildings as completed spaces. The goal was to create images that accurately represented the architectural design and construction work while showing how the different elements came together.
Photographing a renovation requires attention to both the larger spaces and the smaller details. Wide interior views help communicate the layout, proportions, and relationships between different areas. Closer compositions can draw attention to materials, finishes, and design features that might otherwise be overlooked.
Both approaches contribute to a more complete visual record of the project.
Capturing the Design and Finished Spaces
One of the main considerations in commercial building photography is how to represent a space accurately while creating a strong composition.
Camera position, perspective, and lighting all affect how a room or building appears in photographs. Choosing the right viewpoint helps communicate the architect’s design without distorting the proportions or distracting from the finished work.
Interior photography presents additional challenges because different areas of a building may have very different lighting conditions. Windows, overhead lighting, reflective surfaces, and darker architectural elements can all influence the final image.
Balancing these conditions is an important part of producing photographs that show the materials and interior spaces clearly.
For the Bureau of Reclamation project, the objective was to create a consistent collection of images that could be used to present the renovation professionally.
Photography for Architects and Construction Companies
Completed building projects represent considerable planning, design, and construction work. Professional photography provides architects, contractors, and project owners with a permanent visual record of those efforts.
For architectural firms such as Tate, Snyder, Kimsey Architects, photographs of completed projects can support portfolios, project presentations, websites, and future business development.
Construction companies also benefit from photography that documents their finished work. These images can be used in company portfolios, proposals, marketing materials, and project case studies.
A well-planned photography assignment considers these different uses from the beginning. Some images need to communicate the overall scale and layout of a project, while others are intended to show specific design or construction details.
Creating a varied collection gives clients more flexibility when presenting their work across different platforms.
Commercial Photography in Las Vegas and Beyond
Although this assignment took place in Boulder City, much of my commercial photography work involves projects throughout Las Vegas and the surrounding region.
My photography services include architectural and interior photography, commercial real estate photography, hotels and resorts, retail environments, and other commercial properties.
Each assignment has its own requirements. Photographing a renovated government building is different from capturing a luxury resort, retail location, or commercial development. The approach depends on the architecture, the intended audience, and how the photographs will ultimately be used.
What remains consistent is the need to represent each project accurately and produce images that communicate its strongest visual qualities.
The Completed Bureau of Reclamation Project
The newly remodeled Bureau of Reclamation buildings in Boulder City are another addition to my commercial photography portfolio.
It was a pleasure documenting the completed renovation and photographing the work of Tate, Snyder, Kimsey Architects and Whiting-Turner Construction.
